100 Men Who Give a Damn Meeting

On April 24, 2018 Airdrie Meals on Wheels was thrilled and honoured to be nominated to present at a meeting of 100 Men Who Give a Damn, here in Airdrie. It was an opportunity to promote the service that Airdrie Meals on Wheels provides to the residents of Airdrie. At stake was a donation of $10,000.00 from the members of 100 Men Who Give a Damn, who generously donated $100 each.

But we were in competition with 2 other charitable organizations who were also presenting that evening. So we had to step it up a notch…

Lois Jones, the Media and Public Relations member of our Board of Directors, decided that a simple informative talk just was not enough to make an impact. She and her assistant (accomplice?), in the form of one Phyllis McCallum-Hunter, very effectively acted out the service that Airdrie Meals on Wheels provides, food included (although plastic can be somewhat chewy, I hear), and transportation available. Lois, as the volunteer delivering the meal, and Phyllis as the recipient, demonstrated how a nutritious meal is carefully delivered to a grateful client, and at the same time the volunteer (in this case Lois) performs a check on the clients’ wellbeing, allowing peace of mind for the loved ones of the client. A friendly chat between the 2 was not only entertaining, but represented the benefit such a visit offers to a client who may live alone and is homebound.

The performance was enjoyed by all in attendance, though the pot of money was awarded to another organization. Keep up the acting classes, Lois and Phyllis! Maybe next time…

Oh, and many thanks to the members of 100 Men Who Give a Damn for allowing Airdrie Meals on Wheels the opportunity to show how valuable an organization we are to the community of Airdrie. Please keep us in mind for future meetings. We’re working on our performance.
